How Stokfella Works

1. Create your stokvel

Set your group name, contribution amount (up to R10,000 per round), payout schedule, and how many members you need. Takes two minutes.

2. Invite members over WhatsApp

Copy your group link and share it in your WhatsApp group. Members join by clicking the link — no app download needed.

3. Record every contribution

When a member pays their share, record it in the app. Every member sees the updated ledger instantly. No more he-said-she-said.

4. Trigger payouts in rotation

On draw day, the admin marks who receives the payout. The record is updated for everyone. The group decides the rotation — Stokfella just keeps it honest.

5. Full history, always

Every contribution and payout is stored permanently. Export it any time. If the treasurer leaves, the group keeps the records.

On payments

Stokfella is currently a ledger — it records who paid and who received, but does not move money between accounts. Payment rails for South Africa require FSCA licensing, which takes time to get right. We are working on it. When digital payments launch, Ubuntu Pro members get first access.

For now: members pay each other through EFT, cash, or SnapScan as usual, then record it in Stokfella. The ledger is the truth — not anyone's memory.

Payment integration note for developers: The contribution and payout flows include placeholder hooks (marked // PAYMENT_HOOK) where real payment rail integration will connect once FSCA approval is secured.
