About Stokfella

Stokfella is built on a simple belief: in a stokvel, the money belongs to the group — so the record should too.

Traditional stokvels run on trust, community, and a notebook in the treasurer's bag. That works until the treasurer gets sick, changes her number, or simply misremembers October. We have all been in that argument.

Ubuntu philosophy says: umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu — a person is a person through other people. A stokvel is one of the most Ubuntu institutions South Africa has. We built Stokfella to extend that principle into the record: every member sees the same ledger, in real time, always.

What we believe

  • Transparency is respect. Every member deserves to see the full picture, not just what the treasurer decides to share.
  • Simplicity is inclusion. If your 60-year-old aunt cannot use it on her first try, we have failed.
  • Pricing should be public. Every competitor hides their fees. We do not: R0 for the ledger, R49/month for Ubuntu Pro. Calculate your cost before you sign up.

On payment rails

We are working through FSCA licensing and banking partnerships to bring digital payments to South African stokvels. Until that is in place, Stokfella is your transparent ledger — record contributions and payouts, export your history, settle disputes with data instead of memory. Payment processing comes later, done properly.
